Valentine’s Day Memories

Every year, I have these grandiose ideas about how I’m going to send all of my girlfriends cute little cards for Valentine’s Day, and send all of my aunts and godchildren little boxes of chocolate. This rarely happens.

Last year, I sent a package to the aunts — my mother’s sisters. I’m really happy that I did because they all loved that I remembered them. One of those sisters — my Aunt Willie — died five months later, and I was happy to have made her feel good on her last Valentine’s day. Or any day.

I was reminded of my Aunt Willie on February 11th, which was her birthday. I received an alert on the Treo to send her a card on February 7th, and then another on her actual birthday. I thought about deleting the alert, but that would mean that I would have to delete her from my phone book, which, although she’s no longer with us, her presence in my address book feels like she’s still with me. Irrational? Perhaps, but I don’t care.

Does anyone have any good plans?
