I can’t WAIT for the long weekend!!!
First of all — new column today! It’s about a new approach to anger management. Check it out !
Our weather has made my week a little crazy. We had the huge snowfall on Tuesday, which seemed to halt the progress of the city. A drive that normally takes 15 minutes (or less), took about 40. When I arrived home, there was no way I was getting down the alley, and in fact got stuck a few times before backing out and deciding to lodge my car in a snowbank in front of my house.
Just as I’d settled in and the house was beginning to get warm, I lost power. Two hours with no power can wreak havoc on your body temperature, believe you me. I used Phoebe as my feline blanket (all 7 pounds of her) before deciding to light a bevy of candles and begin to assemble the dish that I was preparing pre-blackout. My frantic activity — chopping, measuring, etc. — kept me far warmer than I ever could have been if I were sitting still.
Anyway . . . it seems that we’re having quite the run of this horrific below zero weather.
Valentine’s Day was good. Worked from home instead of opting to dig my car out at 6:00 am. (Working from home never seems to be quite as productive as it should be.) Then, went to the Auto Show, which doesn’t sound terribly romantic, but was a hell of a lot of fun. I want to buy a new car within the next six months, and I really need to start thinking about what kind of investment I’d like to make. My heart says Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5, and my wallet (which doesn’t like to part with a dollar — especially not for a car note) says Maxima!
I sat in all of the cars (I’ll post some pics once I upload them), and the clincher for me is the dashboard. If the dashboard isn’t impressive, I’m not buying that car. And by impressive, I mean that there should be a GPS system, and very cool radio (satellite), and good temperature controls. The BF thinks that I look great in a convertible. I agree, naturally.
Now, whether or not I buy one remains to be seen. As my Magic 8 Ball says — Signs Point to No.
It was interesting to see everyone’s marketing schtick. Toyota had the best one. They had a commercial set, and let anyone come up and do a quasi screen test, reading the teleprompter and recording their own Toyota commercial. You come up and choose the script of your choice, and when you’ve recorded your “commercial,” they provide you with a DVD, and encourage you to post your commercial on your own website or YouTube account. How smart is that? It’s like getting their advertising on everyone’s personal page — without paying a dime.
So of course I recorded a commercial for the Camry Hybrid. I don’t think it will make it’s debut here or on MySpace because, truthfully, I HATE the sight of myself on camera, and the sound of my own voice. For some reason, I have zero problem doing voiceover, but when I have to see myself in conjunction with that voiceover, it’s a horrifying experience.
Anyway . . . after the auto show, grabbed a pizza and watched a movie. It was a great day.
