$230 later . . .

. . . and I have a new starter. To be fair, that total includes a $50 charge for the towing. They picked up the car at 10:00, and it was done by 3:30. Gotta love that kind of service. And the car starts beautifully, so I couldn’t ask for more. I like my mechanic, but I don’t want to see him for the next six months.

While I was waiting for the car, I hopped on the train and met Chris for a movie. We saw “Julie and Julia,” which was delightful and inspiring! It made me want to cook — but not French food. As you might know, the premise of the book is a woman, Julie Powell, who is looking for a purpose and decides to cook (and blog) her way through Julia Child’s book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking. LOTS of scenes featuring the preparation of fattening, rich food. I didn’t think a recipe could possibly call for so much butter, which seems to be the cornerstone ingredient of all French recipes. Loved the movie, but I need an antacid just thinking about some of those dishes.

If I were to try such an experiment, it would be with Indian and Ethiopian foods. Mmmmm. I would have to avoid those Indian recipes with butter rich sauces, but the Tandoori would be fantastic to learn. I don’t know where to begin with Ethiopian food — just making a good injera seems like a daunting task. Maybe I’ll look into it.
